I’ve justed finished uploading Page 18 of Bionic Eyed Snail and have been having a good ‘ol play on photoshop with some new found skills I’ve picked up from doing tutorials over at http://psd.tutsplus.com. This site is great for learning how to use PSD and I highly recommend it.

Anyway go and have a look at my comic or I’ll drown a kitten.

After taking a week off for my birthday I am please to inform you of the uploading of the latest page of Bionic Eyed Snail. This one seemed to take forever to colour and shade but luckily there is very little text, which can get very boring, so thats always a bonus. I am really pleased with the end result and did a few new things I’ve picked up of taught myself over the last couple of weeks. As always please spread the word and like, follow and link until you are blue in the face. Here is a direct link to the new page.

Below are a couple of images I’ve been playing around with on photo shop to try out some tutorials I’ve done online.
Cheers

Good afternoon Snail Fans.

There will not be an updated page of Bionic Eyed Snail this week as I’ve been busy getting my garden tarted up for a BBQ I’m having for my 30th birthday. I wasn’t going to post at all this week but my wife showed me my birthday cake and I just couldn’t go without showing the world. It was done by Sweet E’s Cupcakes (see my post a few weeks ago about designing her logo).
Here it is…….

Right you lovely people, after a few weeks off I’ve finally got the next page of Bionic Eyed Snail ready for upload. I won’t bore you again with the reasons for the delay as you can read it in my last post but please take a look at the site and the next page. It should be up early evening.
Cheers

Some time has passed since the last page of my web comic was uploaded but there is a good reason for this. When I finished page 11 the next page I needed to draw had some new characters who were integral to the story. This page proved to be a major block in the road for me and the few goes I had at drawing it were appalling. The characters always looked static and I wasn’t really happy with how two of the three looked. After a few attempts I and a couple of weeks without an update I just decided to stop and take a breather. It was starting to feel like a chore and not like a hobby.

Going back to basics seemed like the best option so I went on eBay and purchased myself some Marvel comics. Now I have already got a few ‘how to draw’ books and graphic novels but these are mainly manga style and although I like the look and have tried the techniques in this very comic I felt like it was all a bit too forced and didn’t feel the results I was getting were the ones I’d get if I was drawing without any reference. When the first couple of Marvel comics arrived I just simply sat down and started copying the artwork. My main issue with how I was drawing before was that everything looked flat and static. The artwork I was looking at was dynamic and as I started copying poses and stances I found it fairly natural. Although I have used both Manga and Marvel as reference I feel like I have started to find my ‘style’ now and sat and crashed out a page fairly fast early last week. That was page 13 and since then my confidence with my drawing has soared and page 12 has been done entirely digitally which I didn’t trust myself to do before. Since those 2 pages I did the line art for 4 more pages in quick succession and now I’m really getting the bug again.

I’m actually so please with my latest attempts that I’m considering doing a Kickstarter campaign (see Jason Brubaker’s amazing project mentioned in my last post) once I have finished the web-based version of Bionic Eyed Snail. Its something I would have to look into more but I really like the idea. I would definitely redraw some of the pages and open some of them out to double page spreads etc but that is all something to think about in the future. Saying that I would like to hear any comments or suggestions regarding this subject and if people would actually buy it. If you have looked at Jason’s Kickstarter and think that the prices are a bit high for a comic about a snail please don’t worry, mine won’t be anywhere near that. He’s done a 2 volume Graphic novel that is stunning visually so can ask those prices.
Anyway I’ll end my ramble here with a few images I found today from ‘Sock World’. See if you can guess the characters names and leave comments with the answers. Please come back and check out the next pages of Bionic Eyed Snail, page 12 will be uploaded on Sunday evening and I’ll probably put 13 up a couple of days later. Also please tell all your friends about my site so that my confidence continues to grow and I become obsessed with the power and turn into a bastard.

Cheers

Hello everyone.

Its been a while since my last post and I’d like to say I’ve been busy creating new pages for my comic but unfortunately I’ve been mostly working. During my miniscule breaks from the wonderful world of signalling I’ve been watching as much as possible of Team GB at the Olympics. On a more creative subject I’ve been attempting to get some work done on my wife’s friends cupcake artwork. The main logo went down well and I’ve been asked to design business cards and leaflets. Here is a link to Sweet E’s Cupcakes on Facebook for anyone who lives in and around South East Essex. She makes some cracking cakes and will probably bring me some for including her in this post.

I was also given the task of sorting kits for the 7 a-side football team and designing a logo for the club badge. I’ve added the badge below.

When I’ve had a few spare minutes at work I’ve been practicing various drawing styles and subjects with a view to actually drawing the next page of Bionic Eyed Snail and being happy with it. Hopefully I’ll get out of the slump I’m in and get back to the comic. All the drawing I’ve been doing has led to a colleague asking me to design him a tattoo. He wants a day of the dead style sleeve and this is something I’m going to crack on with in the next couple of days.

With my 30th birthday fast approaching my wife had arranged with a friend to have Sir Michael Caine sign some Italian Job related goodies for me at the premiere of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’. Unfortunately he couldn’t make it after hurting his leg in New York. It just so happened that my wife revealed this to me while I was looking longingly at the Kickstarter campaign set up by Jason Brubaker for ReMIND Vol. 2. I stumbled across this site during a bored google session. Without this site and the amazing artwork on it I would probably never have been inspired to rekindle my love of drawing. As far as I’m concerned this guy is a genius. Anyway I’m getting carried away.

The whole idea of Jason’s Kickstarter is to raise money to be able to self publish the second volume of his graphic novel. Fans can pledge money and receive rewards depending on the amount. I excitedly went for the top option (at the time) and pledged $120 and a bit of postage which guaranteed me a box set including a signed, sketched and numbered copy of volume 2 and a signed and numbered copy of the first volume which was kept back from the first Kickstarter. This option had a very limited run which sold out on the 2nd day. Jason wanted to raise $24000 in 30 days to cover printing costs etc and after 9 days he is up to $52000+ already. There are still plenty of pledge options to go for and if you are a fan of comics, graphic novels or amazing artwork then you should have a look at the site and the Kickstarter. I’ve included links below to both sites so please take a look and support a great project.

Regular followers will have noticed that it has been 2 weeks since the last page of Bi0nic Eyed Snail was uploaded. I wanted to upload a page a week but unfortunately I have been tucked up in bed with a dose of flu. I hope that this delay in getting pages done won’t happen again and apologise to anyone who takes the time to look at my site.

Anyway, page 11 is uploaded and ready for your viewing pleasure.

So please enjoy and as always follow, like and generally spread the word.

Also if anyone notices any spelling errors or has any pointers for how it could be improved feel free to comment.

Thanks,

Greg

With England’s’ Euro 2012 campaign kicking off tomorrow Bionic Eyed Snail has decided that it would be a good opportunity to gain the upper hand against the natural enemy of all snails – The French. Here he is showing his support for the Three Lions (except Stuart Downing because he’s rubbish and JT because he is a massive prat). I’m tempted to stick this on a tee-shirt as I’m quite pleased with how it came out.

Its amazing how much we rely on technology in our everyday lives, you’ll suprised to find out that posting a webcomic is kind of depends on it. When my connection at home dropped out last weekend my first thought was to go online and get a contact number for sky and get it sorted. Anyway I have finished page 10 and also a couple of other images that I was hoping to post during the week but couldn’t upload.

Here is a picture of everyones favorite Zombie Temp that was done entirely on my Wacom Bamboo graphics tablet using photoshop. I’m really starting to get the hang of using it after forcing myself to use it for everything I’d usually do with a mouse. It becomes very easy once you get used to hovering a few mm above the pad to make the cursor move without creating a mark. I’ll also add another Bionic Eyed Snail picture later on done in the good old fashioned sketch, scan and colour.

As always please like on Facebook, follow on Twitter or subscribe via the box on the left of the screen.

Cheers.
